The rivers major source of water have an important role in our nation and Hindu mythology and are considered holy by all in the country. The civilizations of ancient India flourished on the banks of the rivers. Our major rivers (Ganga, Yamuna, Indus, Brahmaputra, Narmada, Tapi, Godavari, Krishna and Mahanadi ) along with their numerous tributaries make up the river system of India.Water pollution is a major environmental issue in India. Today more than half the rivers in India are polluted. JCI Ankleshwar in association with Serve Happiness Foundation in support with various other NGOs, Governement and Corporate have decided to take up a cause of protecting rivers thrrough cleanliness awareness project called SUJAL JAGRUTI YATRA.
We have decided to undertake a car rally from the river bed of Narmada to Brahmaputra. The distance will cover more than 4500kms by road across the major cities and town across the rivers, more than 100 desitnations, 9 states, 17 towns, 15 major rivers and tributaries to create awareness about keep the river clean under SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAAN. The rally would cover the various important towns like Ujjain, Kota, Agra, Kanpur, Allahabad, Raibarely, Etawah, Gwalior, Jhansi, Patna, Muzaffarpur, Guwahati and would end at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.
During this yatra more than 2000 small and big villages will be covered, more than 500000 river cleanliness pamphlets would be distributed, more than 5000 volunteers will be associated with the different events and activities on river cleaning and tree plantation. They would also take the pledge to protect and keep the river clean and green through tree plantation and regular monitoring and cleaning river ghats.
