Neral, near Pune
Some time every day is reserved for joint gatherings — for miscellaneous announcements (including workshops/activities offered); and to facilitate collective self-organizing and sharing of work responsibilities, including food preparation, serving, cleaning, etc.
The Vanutsav is also a time for singing, music and dance! (So bring along your music instruments and song books!)
Vanvadi is a collectively owned and regenerated forest in the foothills of the Sahyadris, between Mumbai and Pune, about 100 km from Mumbai, and 12 km from Neral station. It aspires to evolve into an ecological forest village community. We offer simple, shared accommodation in a lovely natural environment, with lush forest and flowing streams, but no grid electricity or piped water.
Our rock pool is over 18 feet deep, and strictly for swimmers only. But shallower, waist-deep water-bodies are also available for non-swimmers and learners.
Keeping the Vanvadi space free of plastics and city litter; respect for the place, the local people and fellow participants; and sharing of common work is expected of participants.
Suggested Voluntary Contribution
To meet various costs, including food – and to support the work at Vanvadi – we request a voluntary contribution of Rs 600 per person per day, and Rs 400 per day for each child within 12 years. (More would of course be welcome!) Advance confirmation of your participation to firstname.lastname@example.org with a copy to email@example.com would be much appreciated, as also advance payment.
We can accommodate only about 40 people in two dwellings. So please bring along a tent if you can. Also: (1) a sleeping bag, or at least 2 sheets; (2) Torch/flashlight or a solar lamp; (3) Any music instrument; (4) Any organic/wholesome food or provisions you can manage to bring without hassle; (5) Any swimming/bathing gear you like; (6) A mug/glass and a plate.
