Dear Friends

Greetings from SWGM – Karnataka.

The Western Ghats are recognized for global importance for biological diversity. WG traverse the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The green cover is all encompassing from evergreen tropical rain forests to deciduous; shola forests.

Western Ghats Children’s Conclave will offer a rare experience of these diverse forest types will take children’s from different states in to a different world. The beauty of forest, birds, mountain, river, local culture and interaction has an interesting story to tell.

Children from different states of WG will have an opportunity to exchange their stories about nature and share their experiences.

The Western Ghats: The Western Ghats (WG), also known by the name
‘Sahyadri’, constitutes a 1,600 km long mountain chain along with west coast of
India. The Western Ghats, an area of rich biodiversity and also exhibiting high
degrees of endemism, comprises the major portion of the Western Ghats, from
Gujarat to Kanyakumari and Sri Lanka is the Hotspot, one of the 34 global
biodiversity hotspots for conservation.

Day 1: 26/04/2018

11.00am to 12.00am Introduction of Western Ghats’s. By Resource persons.
12.00am to 1.30pm Group Formations and Responsibilities

2.30pm to 4.30pm Journey to Crestline of Western Ghats
4.30pm to 5.00pm Tea
5.00pm. to 6.30pm Free time
to interacting with others to know more
6.30pm to 7.30pm Reflections/Video show’s

Day 2: 27/04/2018

7.00am to 8.30am Travel towards Bhimeshwara Temple by Bus
8.30am to 11.00am Trekking to Bhimeshwara
11.00am to 12.30am Experiencing Bhimeshwara
12.30am to 1.30pm Lunch
1.30pm to 2.00pm Rest
2.00pm to 3.30pm Experiencing Malnad & Back to Road by Trekking
3.30pm to 4.30pm Travel to Base Camp by Bus
4.30pm to 5.30pm Snacks and Rest
5.30pm to 6.30pm Reflections by Participants
6.30pm to 7.30pm Preparation for the Cultural events
7.30pm to 8.30pm Cultural programme
8.30pm to 9.30pm Dinner

Day 3: 28/04/2018

8.00am to 12.30pm Visiting Families residing in the Wildlife sanctuary.
And Inviting them for the evening cultural program
12.30am to 2.00pm Lunch
2.00pm to 4.00pm Final draft preparation for presentation
4:00pm to 4:30pm Snacks
4:30pm to 6:30pm Presentation’s from participants to share their
6.30pm to 7.00pm Preparation for cultural programme
7.00pm to 8.30pm Sharing of Experience from all the participants
& Closing ceremony
8.30pm to 9.30pm Dinner

10 students and 2 volunteers expected from each of the 5 states (Goa, Karnataka, Kerala,
Tamil Nadu/Puduchery and Maharashtra).

How to reach Hosagadde: (The Venue of the Conclave)
It is in the crest line of Western Ghats on Kogar Ghat, catchment of Sharavti River
Nearest Railway stations are:
1. Bhatkal (On Konkan Railway, is 50 km) to Hosagadde
2. Talaguppa (30 km) to Hosagadde
3. Birur – Bangalore to pune (birur junction)
Nearest Towns: Sagar on Bangalore- Honnavar Highway
Bhatkal on the West Coast well connected by Rail and Road
Note to participants: For participants local travel will be facilitated by the organizer
with enough advance information about 1 Number of People coming, date and time of
arrival to the nearest Rail or Bus Station.
Things to Bring: Shoes and slippers, cap, torch, water bottles, trekking bag, bath kit,
light bed sheets, Note book/pad and pen.
